The Information Technology Division, ICFRE caters to all the Information Technology needs of ICFRE and its Regional Institutes / Centres. The activities of the division can be summarized as given below :
1-National Knowledge Network (NKN) Connectivity (ICFRE and its Institutes) : The connectivity provisioned under this arrangement shall form the basis of knowledge sharing between the national & international research institutions. The ICFRE envisages to consolidate the NKN connectivity at all its regional locations viz.; more (0.22 MB)
The Information Technology Division operates Network Operating Centre to manage and monitor campus network services and VPN services at ICFRE institutes spread across country. The LAN / WAN/VPN services have been extended to the around 1500 users at ICFRE HQ and its institutes. Internet services connected through 1Gbps through redundant Optical Fibre media. Dedicated network engineers are deployed at all locations of ICFRE institutes to maintain the network and to resolves the issues faced by users. Centralized service desk also made available to log the network issue. The NKN VPN connectivity uses for accessing IFRIS application, Videoconference service , FTP service and other intranet applications.
The ICFRE has taken lead in implementing the eGovernance programme. All the officers / officials up to the level of LDC at ICFRE and its institutes/centres have been equipped with a Desktop/ Computer, printer and internet. Many eGovernance applications of Govt. of India are being used at ICFRE like PFMS, eProcurement, GEM etc. Many other applications developed by IT Division, ICFRE are also being used.

Apart from maintenance of the Network Hardware thisdivision also undertakes the Maintenance of Computer and peripheral hardware installed at ICFRE Hqtrs. through the third party vendors. The Hardware have been categorized and inventorised accordingly for its proper maintenance and coordination with the vendors. AMC of Photocopiers is also being managed by the IT Division, ICFRE through OEM vendors looking after their own brand of machines broadly, Xerox, HCL and Ricoh. The Division also manages the supply of consumables for the ICFRE Hqtrs. by entering into a Rate Contract of Consumable items and Printers cartridges is also processed.
The IT Division is actively involved in the process of imparting in-house training to the ICFRE / FRI Officers and staff. The Division also conducted various training for Leave (PIMS) module, EDMS module for ICFRE Head Qtrs/Institutes officials.
IT Division conceptualized, designed & implemented the following websites of Institutes:

- 3- AFRI Jodhpur Bilingual website
- 4- IFB, Hyderabad website
- 5- TFRI, Jabalpur website
- 6- RFRI website
- 7- IFGTB Hindi website
Apart from above, websites related to workshops/seminars/projects were also developed by IT Division, ICFRE.
Interactive Portal:Interface with stakeholders
Traditional mode of addressing the problems of the end-users was very time consuming, as end-users frequently contacts the specialists either by letters or by phone calls, than specialists visit the site and made his comments or advise the end-users the remedial measures for the problems.In the changing scenario of IT revolution and communication development, traditional mode of addressing the problems/ queries of end-users becomes obsolete and requires major changes in the strategies for reaching the end-users for projecting ICFRE as problem-solving organization/team of experts.This forum has been developed to facilitate our valued end-users to find quick and reliable solution of their problem by using internet environment.
Conceptualized, designed, implemented the following applications/portal:
- 1- Online Office Records (Orders/MoM/Agendas etc.) System: From 1.12.2017 onwards, officer orders, notifications, MoMs, agenda etc. are being uploded on this portal and available to public with various search criteria.
- 2- Guest House Booking Portal : Guest houses of VVB Delhi, FRI, IFP, TFRI, HFRI, IWST, AFRI and ARCBR are available for online booking of rooms.
- 3- Information System for Secretary Office (Men-in-Position): Employees data is available for taking various reports by Secretary Office.
- 4- Annual Property Returns Portal: Employees are uploading their Annual Property Return on this portal and it is available on internet.
- 5- Pensioner database: ICFRE Pensioners data is avaible. Various options of uploading document of pensioners and search criteria are also available.
- 6- Fixed Assets Database and Application: Fixed assets data like scientific equipments, Office equipments, vehicles etc. of ICFRE and its institute is available on this application.
- 7- Complaint Management System: System is developed for FRI to lodge civil complaints.
Apart from above, websites related to workshops/seminars/projects were also developed by IT Division, ICFRE.
ICFRE Data Centre
ICFRE Data Centre
ICFRE Data Centre was implemented and started functioning on Oct 21, 2009. Data center is a facility used to house computer systems and associated components, such as high servers, UTM, mail, MCU, storage systems like SAN & tap Libraries. It generally includes redundant or backup power supplies, redundant data communications connections, environmental controls (e.g., air conditioning, fire suppression) and security devices.
Upgradation process of data centre was started in 2016. M/s BodhTree Consulting Hyderabad was selected for upgradation of data centre through open bidding. The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between ICFRE and M/s BodhTree Consulting Hyderabad signed on 06.04.2018 for Upgradation of ICFRE Data Centre. M/s Both Tree Consulting Hyderabad completed installation and Commissioning of Upgradation of ICFRE Data Centre. The Operation & Maintenance (O&M) for the ICFRE Data Centre is for five years. The concept of virtualization techniques was implemented for the Upgradation of Data Centre for optimum use of resources. The Unified Threat Management (UTM) is implemented as IT infrastructure security system for ICFRE Data Centre. The Webcast server is also installed with audio video capture card for the implementation of web casting facilities.
Some of services provided by Data Centre are Mail, Internet, Web, Videoconferencing, Antivirus, FTP, Network Security System, Databases, Building Management System (BMS), Virtual Private Network (VPN) services, Push Mail Service, Web casting etc.
More than Forty Web applications/websites are hosted on Data Centre. Around 1500 active email accounts are on Mail server. Service Desk and IFRISDESK are Institutional framework for the resolution of issues across ICFRE. ICFRE Data Centre services are available 24*7*365 at ICFRE Head Qtr and its Institutes/Centres
Database of Research Projects undertaken in ICFRE
The database of Research Projects undertaken in ICFRE since 1990 was developed using Dot Net technologies and SQL Server 2005. Later on in 2018, it was upgraded in PHP and mySQL. The database comprises details of all projects of ICFRE Institutes viz: Name of institute, division, name and type of funding agency, species, and name of Investigator and year of commencement / completion. The database is available on internet and accessible through http://icfreprojects.icfre.gov.in/
Indian Forestry Research & Information System (IFRIS)
IT Division is maintaining the modules Personal Information Management System(PIMS) and Payroll Management System(PMS) used by employees of ICFRE and its Institutes/Centres.
PIMS-PIMS is being used for keeping personal Information of employees. All ICFRE officials are operating On Line Leave across ICFRE since January 1, 2011. Employees can see their leave records, GPF yearly statements, Pay Slips through this module. ACRs/APARS of scientists are also being uploaded on this module which are visible to the concerned scientist in his/her account.
PMS- PMS is being used to process the salary of employees. Various reports related to salary are being generated through this module.
Webcasting
IT Division had initiated and accomplished successfully new technology (webcasting) in year 2015. Live webcasting sessions were organized during International seminar on Transforming Mountain Forestry at FRI, Dehradun from Jan 18-22, 2015 after taking resources/hardware from FSI, Dehradun and IIRS, Dehradun. In year 2018, server with integrated webcasting card were purchased for all institutes of ICFRE. 5th Convocation of Forest Research Institute Deemed to be University, Dehradun held on 7th September 2019 was webcasted through these server.
